German powerhouse Marcel Kittel (Team Giant-Shimano) tonight sprinted to victory in the 2014 People's Choice Classic in Adelaide - the first event of the 2014 Santos Tour Down Under - ahead of fellow countryman Andre Greipel (Lotto-Belisol) and Australian Caleb Ewan (UniSA-Australia).

Earlier today Simon Gerrans was crowned new Australian National Road Champion after taking a dominant victory in the elite men’s road race ahead of Cadel Evans (Team BMC Racing) and Richie Porte (Team Sky).

Elvin Wins Australian National Road Championships

Defending road champion Gracie Elvin took back-to-back road titles at the Cycling Australia National Road Championships in Ballarat earlier today. Team AIS executed a plan that played to the team’s strengths in numbers amongst a strong, deep elite women’s field. In the finishing meters Elvin outsprinted a lead group of nine riders, that included teammates Shara Gillow and Amanda Spratt, to claim gold.

Howson Takes Under-23 ITT World Championship

Damien Howson (Australia) is the world under-23 time trial champion. Howson powered over the flat, 43.46-km course from Pistoia to Florence, Italy, winning the gold medal in 00:49:49. Yoann Paillot (France) took the silver at 0:57, and Lasse Norman Hansen (Denmark) grabbed the bronze at 1:10.
