Former Italian national champion Giovanni Visconti underwent surgery on Sunday following a crash in the People's Choice Classic - the first event of the 2014 Tour Down Under.

Giovanni Visconti (Movistar) has won his second stage of the 2013 Giro d'Italia. In addition, he has snared his team's third consecutive stage win and its fourth stage win overall. Visconti attacked from the peloton with 16 km left of stage 17, cut through the remnants of the break of the day, and soloed home to win the flat, 214-km run from Caravaggio to Vicenza in 5:15:34.

Giovanni Visconti (Movistar) has notched his team's second stage win of this year's Giro d'Italia. The Italian was the solo survivor of a daylong break, and he held off the field to win Stage 15, a mountainous, 149-km ride from Cesana Torinese to the Pantani Memorial on the Col du Galibier in France, in 4:40:48.
