Moreno Wins Stage 4 of Vuelta; Nibali Retakes Red Jersey

Daniel Moreno (Katusha) has vaulted to victory in Stage 4 of the Vuelta a Espana. The Spaniard jumped away from the peloton on the climb to the finish to win the rugged, 189-km ride from Lalin to Fisterra in 4:37:47. Fabian Cancellara (RadioShack-Leopard) finished second, and Michael Matthews (Orica-GreenEdge) took third. Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) has retaken the red jersey from Chris Horner (RadioShack-Leopard), who fell off of the Italian’s pace at the end of the stage.

Makim Belkov has given Katusha its second stage win of the 2013 Giro d'Italia. The Russian jumped into the break of the day and then jumped away from it, soloing home to win Stage 9, a rugged, 170-km ride from Sansepolcro to Firenze, in 4:31:31.

The Italian veteran surged away from the lead group on the day's final climb and held on to win the hilly, 222-km ride from Sorrento to Marina di Ascea, in 5:43:50. Cadel Evans (BMC) outsprinted defending champion Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin-Sharp) at 0:16. Paolini is the new maglia rosa.

Spilak Wins Stage 5 of Romandy Tour; Froome Extends Overall Lead

Simon Spilak (Katusha) has taken the queen stage of the Tour of Romandy. Spilak took a two-up sprint to win Stage 4, a mountainous, 188.5-km ride from Marly to Les Diablerets in 5:10:00. Chris Froome (Sky) finished second, and Rui Costa (Movistar) took third at 1:03. Overall leader Froome has extended his lead.
