Juan Ayuso Cancels UAE Team Emirates Contract Prematurely

Juan Ayuso is leaving UAE Team Emirates and the parties have agreed to part ways

UAE Team Emirates today announced it will part ways with Juan Ayuso at the end of the 2025 season. Ayuso and UAE Team Emirates have achieved a mutual understanding, which will allow for an early termination of Ayuso’s contract. The original contract between the parties saw Ayuso remain part of the team through 2028.

22-year-old Ayuso will remain part of UAE Team Emirates until the end of the current season and will continue to participate in races for his team. The parties cite differences in rider development objectives as cause for the premature cancellation of the contract. UAE Team Emirates also lists lack of alignment with the team’s sporting philosophy as one of the causes for the lack of opportunity for continued cooperation with the rider.

“While I would like to thank UAE Team Emirates for the support and opportunities it has given me over the past years, I feel now is the perfect time for me to take a different path with the same enthusiasm,” Ayuso explained to Roadcycling.com.

“I have had the chance to grow as a rider and compete alongside the very best and I know that what I have learned while with the team will always remain part of my professional background,” Ayuso continued.

Spanish rider Ayuso has achieved several significant and memorable results during his time with UAE Team Emirates – a team he joined from the middle of the 2021 season after leaving Team Colpack Ballan.

Ayuso won the general classification of the 2025 Tirreno-Adriatico and the 2024 Itzulia Basque Country. Ayuso won a stage in both the 2024 and 2025 Tirreno-Adriatico and two stages in Tour de Suisse 2023. Ayuso has also won a stage in the Vuelta a Espana he is currently participating in – in addition to finishing first in the team time trial with his team. Ayuso won stage 7 of this year’s Giro d’Italia and was ranked third in the general classification until stage 16 while a conflict appeared to be ongoing between his team and him.

Professional cycling analysts speculate Ayuso is likely to join either Team Visma-Lease a Bike, EF Education-EasyPost, Soudal-QuickStep, Movistar Team, or Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe from the 2026 cycling season.

“Juan (Ayuso) has been a valuable talent, and we are grateful for what we have built together,” UAE Team Emirates CEO Mauro Gianetti explained. “At the same time, our sporting project has always been focused on continuity, group harmony, and building a winning team. In the best interest of both parties, we believe the decision is the most consistent with the values that define our organization. We wish Juan every success in the future,” Gianetti added.
