Finot Wins Stage 1 of Four Days of Dunkirk

Frederic Finot (Jean Delatour) has taken the early lead in the Four Days of Dunkirk.

Frederic Finot (Jean Delatour) has taken the early lead in the Four Days of Dunkirk. Finot won a two-up sprint against Stephane Berges (Ag2r) to win the 189.5-km ride from Dunkirk to Roost-Warendin in 4:35:34. Tom Steels (Landbouwkrediet) took the bunch sprint for third at 2:05.

Jean Delatour, which is fighting to impress the Tour de France organizers, is desperate for a success. Finot attacked at 30 km, and Berges joined him. The pair ran up a seven-minute lead before the peloton began to chase. The pursuit, however, was not determined, and the stage came down to the sprint between Finot and Berges, which the former won.

In the overall, Finot leads Berges by 0:06 and Steels by 2:17. Stage 2 will be a 201-km run from Sin-le-Noble to Bapaume. The stage will feature two hill sprints, but nothing that should keep Finot from keeping his lead. Check in on http://www.roadcycling.com/ and see if he does it.
