If there was ever an ideal application for the weather-resistant, maintenance-free Gates Carbon Belt Drive, it would be cyclocross. The dust, mud, and snow are no match for the all-new Center Track belt design featured on the Spot Bikes Mod Single Speed. Gates and Spot teamed up to engineer a belt-drive design that requires less tension than previous incarnations, which in turn makes alignment and wheel changes exponentially easier. This design, called Center Track, features a raised ridge in the middle of the belt which keeps the belt from 'walking' off the side of the pulleys. The Mod includes a 50-tooth chainwheel pulley, and a 24-tooth rear cog pulley, which gives you a gear ratio that's just a little higher than a traditional 34-tooth chainring with a 17-tooth cog. Spot didn't make any commuting/touring/do-it-all-but-nothing-well compromises when they designed the Mod, either AAAit's all about 'cross.
