The undisputed domestique in Shimano's lineup is its 105-level components. Sure, it's never going to match the lightweight build as the GC leading Dura-Ace components, but the price-to-performance ratio and its durability make it a teammate you can always depend on. For the newest version of this venerable group, Shimano has created gear ranges that will satisfy elite road cyclists to gravel grinders, and everything in between, allowing you to build up a bike that suits your riding. With this particular cluster, Shimano constructs the 11-speed 105 CS-HG700 Cassette to fit on 10-speed native road freehubs as well as including a spacer for use with 11-speed spaced freehub bodies. This, of course, means it will work with mountain hubs with 9 through 11-speed spaced freehubs as well, so if you have some wheels sitting around that can be repurposed to a touring, gravel, or cross bike, this is the cassette you need. Have that smooth Shimano shifting with a rangy 11-34 tooth spread, letting you find the ideal cadence to pedal your way through any adventure. Shimano's experience in machining and engineering allows for exceptional amounts of technology to go into tooth design, shaping, and shifting ramps, known as Hyperglide, and luckily, Shimano does a good job trickling this technology from Dura-Ace down through Ultegra, and here on the 105. Made from nickel-plated steel, the cogs themselves withstand corrosion and are tough enough to hold up to off-road abuse, which provides durability for smooth shifting and longer life. The CS-HG700 comes in only one size, 11-34, a large enough gear range to work for road, 'cross, and gravel. Please note that this cassette must be paired with the correct derailleur, as it will not work with a short cage, and requires medium or long cage derailleurs to shift properly.
