SRAM's 1X mountain bike groupset has received praise for it's simplicity and reliability as well as its streamlined good looks. For 2014, SRAM took the best from this mountain groupset and combined it with its road technology to create the cyclocross specific Force CX1. Now your groupset will reflect what we all love about cyclocross--it's the discipline that is more about having fun than having the lightest, fanciest, more electronic gear. As the technology is handed down from SRAM's Red tier, the arms of the Force CX1 were constructed from unidirectional carbon fiber. This method of carbon lay-up, although more time-consuming than a multi-directional weave, allows for a crankset that is extra rigid. This helps ensure that power is transferred to the drivetrain more efficiently rather than being absorbed into the bottom bracket. Uni-directional carbon also allows SRAM to reduce the amount of carbon used which effectively, reduces the weight. Additionally, the spindle is incorporated into the non-driveside arm. The reduced weight, but increased stiffness allowed SRAM to rotate the spider to take advantage of the rigid crank arm. The carbon arms are matched to a forged alloy spider which is both lightweight and durable. The crankset accommodates chainrings from 38-46 tooth, sold separately. The SRAM Force CX1 GXP Crankarm is designed to fit, as the name implies, a GXP bottom bracket. It is available in three lengths: 170, 172. 5, and 175mm. It is sold without the chainring.
