As if triathlon's three disciplines didn't make preparation complicated enough, there's also long- and short-courses to consider. And if your specialty is the latter, you'll most likely find that the pockets and cut of long-course apparel is encumbering, or at the very least, unnecessary. For this very reason, TYR created the Carbon Tri Tank. It features materials that are able to withstand the brutality of an Ironman length, only with a cut and lack of pockets that's better suited for the short courses. For the construction of Carbon Tri Tank, TYR pulled out all of the stops. Starting with the bulk of the composition, TYR incorporated a blend of nylon and spandex. Why these materials Well, it all comes down to three key components: moisture management, comfort, and stretch. The nylon fibers of the fabric lend themselves to first two of these characteristics, as the material is lightweight and soft-to-the-touch. Accordingly, it pulls moisture away from the skin to the quick-drying surface of the material. As a result, you not only benefit from a dry, protective layer, but your skin also remains dry and free from moisture-induced chafing. Meanwhile, the spandex provides a four-way stretch to the material, enabling a complete freedom of movement within the top. Additionally, this allowed stretch enables the material to follow your diverse movements, preventing the top from resisting them. So, friction is nearly eliminated, bolstering the overall comfort of the top. And knowing that the resulting lightweight material would be prone snags and wear, TYR also treated the fabric with Teflon. As a result, durability is increased, and as an added benefit, the top's aero- and hydrodynamics are also amplified. In addition to the aforementioned, TYR also included dedicated inserts along the side panels in order to increase stretch, ventilation, and moisture management.
