As a long-standing option in the lineup, the Easton EA70 SL clincher wheel has proven itself as a durable performer. For this year, the rim profile gets bumped up to 17. 5mm internal width, which provides a more stable tire profile, which is especially noticeable if you've made the jump onto the 25mm tire program. At the heart of the wheels are Easton's new V5 hubs, which utilize a traditional J bend spoke for ease of service. These wheels are perfect for logging training miles, year in and year out.The EA70 wheel employs the a freshly revised version of the EA70 clincher rim. Not surprisingly, Easton's proprietary EA70 aluminum alloy is the material of choice, and while it sacrifices a bit of strength over the EA90 version, it's still a very strong, stiff rim, and keeps the wheelset weighing in at 1590 grams. At 25mm deep, it's fairly shallow, for fast spin-up and spirited climbing. And despite its light weight, the EA70 rim is very stiff, which aids in tracking and durability. The EA70 SL wheels roll on Easton's new V5 hubs, which feature sealed cartridge bearings for durability and smooth rolling. The Shimano compatible alloy freehub body keeps the weight to a minimum, while the oversized driveside hubshell makes for a much stiffer wheel during acceleration, a trait which powerful riders will appreciate. Holding it all together are Sapim's excellent butted spokes. Unlike the EA90 wheelset, the spokes on the EA70 are of the traditional J bend variety, which makes sourcing replacement spokes easier should the need arise. The storied racing heritage of Sapim's spokes spans the gamut of racing disciplines, which will instill confidence in even the biggest skeptic. There's 20 in the front wheel.
