Selle Italia SLR saddle

Note: Preliminary review. A more detailed review will follow.

Selle Italia SLR saddleAfter 100 years of making saddles, Selle Italia certainly isn't in the dark ages. Their new 135-gram SLR saddle evidences this.

Combine carbon fiber with titanium rails and the result is lightweight durability. Formula One engineers certainly are aware of the benefits of carbon fiber. Bicyclists have seen it used in wheels. For a long time it seemed the best technology we could find for saddles was Ti rails. Thanks to Selle Italia and their development with carbon fiber, we are now seeing saddles constructed with creative and impressive use of carbon fiber.

I must admit I have have grown accustomed to Selle Italia Flites and Turbo Matics. I wasn't sure how the thin SLR would hold up under my large "test area!" Since it was during the middle of winter, the saddle and rider were given the comforts of indoors on a trainer.
The feel was firm, yet comfortable. After several combined hours, the feel didn't seem to change. It maintained its comfort zone.

A female rider used the saddle for some stationary rides on her trainer. She stated her narrow hip structure makes it difficult for her to find a comfortable saddle. She liked the narrow horn of the SLR and said the seat was extremely comfortable.

The only concern expressed by this tester was that of durability. The female tester had an unexpected experience in the past when the leather came unglued on one of her Flites. Our other testers have always had confidence in Selle Italia products, as they have never experienced any failures. Certainly, the testers would like more time on the SLR and when the snow finally melts will pursue to doing that.

The SLR isn't the only advancement coming from Selle Italia. Our testers are also excited about the new Flite TT. Products from Selle Italia just seem to be getting better and better and Selle Italia is clearly the leader of the saddle manufacturing industry. Thank you Selle Italia!
