Stick it! No offense - because I’m talking about the iStik case that holds an iPod Nano.
All you have to do is drop your iPod Nano into the lexan case and snap on the lid. Next, decide where on your clothing you want it to be. Then place the magnetic base under the clothing and align the iPod Nano case on top. The connection is simple, yet extremely secure.
Alissa Huber, owner and CEO of iStik, Inc. said the magnets are not your typically refrigerator variety and challenges you to stick it. She is bold enough to propose it would stay in place while skydiving. The magnets being discussed here are the neodymium type. They are also referred to as NIB because they are made from Neodymium, Iron, and Boron. They are the strongest magnets that exist today. I got a “D” in college chemistry so enough about that.
I would have liked to take Alissa up on her skydiving offer, but for the time being all I did was jump up and down on my front lawn. I actually folded my jersey so the fabric was four times as thick and then connected the two halves. I could only jump up and down for so long before the neighbors would call the psychiatric ward (again) so I thought it was time to go for a bike ride.
I placed the iStik it on my right thigh. This was the recommendation from the iStik company, because I like to be able to fiddle with my iPod. It was easy to change songs and adjust the volume. With the exception of the earphone cord dangling, I never noticed it was there. The base didn’t scratch or dig into my skin. When I became annoyed with the earphone cord, I threaded it inside my jersey. The iStik case makes it convenient to place your iPod wherever you want. It’s better than being in your jersey pocket getting gunk on it or being buried under other items. It remained firmly in place during the ride.
There is no latch or snap to hold the two halves of the case together. It appears that the magnetism alone bonds them. The tolerances from the molds must be computed appropriately as they are snug when pushed together. I’m not sure what would happen over time with continued pulling apart of the two halves.
I enjoyed this gadget a great deal. It is very handy and doesn’t feel heavy on your clothing. I can use it for a variety of activities. I’ve become so attached to my iStik that I even took it to bed with me. Now, are there any skydivers out there?
