SUV, van and pickup owners with receiver hitches can utilize the Yakima HoldUp bike rack at the back of their vehicle. The simplicity starts with assembly. Attach each bike tray with two bolts. Put the hitch bolt pin in the hole and tighten it down with the included wrench. I like the fact that the pin is actually threaded. This eliminates any play in the hitch and also adds to the security of the rack. Speaking of security, Yakima includes a locking cable and keys. How nice!

Loading the bikes can be done blindfolded. The rear wheel sits in a small tray and is secured by the familiar ratchet strap. The front wheel is held in place by a large pivot arm that also ratchets as you press down on it over the front wheel. Be sure your tires are inflated or the arm won’t hold. Mix and match road, mountain, cross, or children’s bikes. Anything will do except a tandem. The two bikes face opposite directions of each other so nothing gets in the way or rubs. How nice! You don’t have to lift anything over your head. After all the hard work of loading your cycles (not!), open your favorite beverage with the bottle opener on the end of the rack. When not in use, the base folds up and the pivot arms stow neatly away. After using the HoldUp, you’ll love it so much and want to get the two bike extension.

What makes the Yakima HoldUp better is the wheel tray system as opposed to top tube mounting. The bikes are held securely with no swinging. Lifting is minimal. The huge red release handle enables quick removal. The threaded hitch pin eliminates noisy banging and movement in the hitch.
