Product Review: Road to Roubaix DVD

By Dave Osborne
Sep 9, 2008 - 3:47:59 AM

Road to Roubaix DVD.

Don't expect a typical cycling productions race DVD. It's not about who wins or the strongest team. The Road to Roubaix features the spirit of the Paris-Roubaix race. It blends history and present day info about the region and the soul of the people.

The commentary, video, still photography, and production was exceptional. It portrayed the heart of cycling and the passion of the sport. The story acquaints the viewer with the uniqueness of the Paris-Roubaix race. Regardless if you're a seasoned cycling fan or a casual grand tour viewer, this film enlightens you about the “hell of the north”. It will provide meaning and insight from the racers' perspective about the significance of this one day classic among many. There are numerous transitions consisting of racer interviews, race footage, photos, fans, and behind the scenes activity.

The 75 minute length held my interest and I wish there was more. The Road to Roubaix documentary can easily be enjoyed by anyone. In addition, co-director David Deal's talent goes beyond this film by his extraordinary ability to convince Midwestern USA bar patrons to change the channel from Nascar racing to watching Greg Lemond in the Tour. Super Dave and Roadcycling.com rate this DVD 5 out of 5 bloody cobblestones!
