The RB3's have everything you expect from Rudy Project sunglasses. They have the easily adjustable temples and noise pads, which not only allow proper fit, but comfort. The lenses clarity is second to none. There are seven lenses colors to choose from that easily snap into the frames. Mine came with racing red and laser black. The hard shell "taco" case also came with them. New this year is a sunglass bag that is also the cleaning cloth.
The unique function of the RB3 is the flip up system. We have all been wearing sunglasses and walked into shaded areas or buildings when we didn't need the full protection from our glasses. Instead of walking around in the dark or carrying our sunglasses wondering what to do with them, just flip up the lens portion of the frame.
Where else have you seen sports minded people flip up their sunglasses while working out? Even a simple-minded bicycle rider like myself knows its baseball! So, why would a cyclist want the RB3's? Instead of shaded areas or going into buildings, the RB3's are also well suited for prescription lenses.
While wearing the RB3's, they would snap up crisply. Unfortunately, they would also snap down sharply and it even stung a bit. I noticed the frame would flex a great deal if I were trying to flip them up and down one handed. On one occasion, the entire lens assembly snapped off the frame. Although this is a function of the RB3's, I didn't intend to do it at the time. They easily snapped back on.
Maybe since I'm not a baseball player I don't have the finesse to operate the RB3's smoothly. I found the frame flex to be too great which distracted me while riding and trying to flip them up and down. Doing this two handed was easier but then that left you open with little bike control. The lenses did their job in different light conditions as always. The no slip noise pads and adjustable temples kept them solid on my head except for the frame twist that would occur when flipping them. I decided the best use for the RB3's is wearing them while riding to the ballpark. PLAY BALL!!
