Giro Boreas helmet

Giro Boreas helmet

Giro Debuts New Road Helmet At The Tour de France & The World Championships.

Santa Cruz, CA, USA - Giro Sport Design, the leader in performance cycling helmets has introduced the ultimate road helmet - the Boreas (TM). Named after the North wind, the Boreas sets a new standard for ventilation, fit & styling.

In designing the Boreas, Giro's R&D team set out to create the world's most ventilated road helmet. "One thing we have learned from our professional road riders is that they want more ventilation. The Boreas was designed to give them just that." said Giro's Sport Marketing Manager, Simon Lillistone. Featuring 22 vents and exhaust ports which drive air through a network of internal channels, the Boreas is reported to be significantly cooler than prior models.

The radically ventilated Boreas was tested in the heat of this year's Tour de France, cooling the heads of prologue winner and yellow jersey holder Chris Boardman and American hopeful Bobby Julich, who were the helmet in every road stage. Giro equipped athletes made up 9 of the first 20 finishers at the UCI World Championships, including 2nd and 3rd place finishers, Bo Hamburger (DK) and Leon Van Bon.

The Boreas utilizes all the latest Giro helmet technology including an In-molded Hardbody (TM) shell, 2 sets of Polartec (TM) pads, the Roc Loc 3 and C-ribs. C-rib technology is found on the Boreas and the Helios helmets and provides internal air channels for superior air flow while helping to absorb the energy of an impact.

The Boreas is available in 3 Roc Loc adjustable sizes - 2XS/XS, S/M, L/XL - which are designed to accommodate 98% of all head shapes and measurements. The weight, with the Roc Loc 3 is approximately 270 grams. The Boreas is ASTM approved and CE certified.

Availability: February 1998.
1998 colors: Red, White, Lime.
