Starting from the 2013 season Vincenzo Nibali, who finished 3rd overall in this year's Tour de France, will ride for Team Astana. Italian Nibali moves from Team Liquigas-Cannondale and will be joined by current teammates Alessandro Vanotti and Valerio Agnoli.

According to vice president of the Kazakhstan Cycling Federation Allen Chayzhunusov Nibali, Vanotti and Agnoli have all signed two year agreements with the Kazakh team.

Rumors of a transfer from Liquigas-Cannondale to Astana for Nibali have been flourishing since the Tour de France where Team Astana's manager revealed that he wanted Nibali and Danish Jakob Fuglsang on his team.

At this point in time sources indicate that Fuglsang may indeed be moving to Team Astana. According to Fuglsang himself it is unlikely that he will fit into Riis' Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank. Fuglsang, however, does not rule out that he is moving to Team Astana or Team Omega Pharma-QuickStep and confirms he's negotiating with Team Astana.
