Van Bon Wins Stage 5 of Dutch Tour
Leon van Bon (Lotto) has won Stage 5 of the Tour of the Netherlands.
Leon van Bon (Lotto) has won Stage 5 of the Tour of the Netherlands. Van Bon led the 221.5-km run from Dusseldorf, Germany to Sittard-Geelen, the Netherlands for more than 180 km en route to victory in 5:10:28. Marc Streel (Landbouwkrediet) finished second at 1:06, and Manuel Quinziato (Lampre) took third at 1:43. Vyatcheslav Ekimov (U.S. Postal Service) remains the overall leader.

At about 30 km, van Bon and Streel attacked. The two forged a nine-minute lead before the peloton began to close the gap. Toward the end of the stage, Streel began to cramp, and van Bon dropped him. Max van Heeswijk (U.S. Postal Service) led the peloton home at 1:47.
In the overall, Ekimov leads Marc Wauters and Erik Dekker (both from Rabobank) by 0:09 and 0:12, respectively. Tomorrow?s sixth and final stage will be decisive.
