Julian Dean Diary

Me Voy...

Me Voy?..

I?m going. I?ve just been informed by the team that I have been selected for the Tour de France. I?d heard whispers over the last few days but yesterday it was confirmed. While happy, I am at the same time, a tad anxious and am riding a wee wave of emotions at the moment. Although I have worked hard and have been driven and motivated by the possibility of going to the Tour, my preparation hasn?t been ideal. My condition was good at the Tour de Suisse and although I wasn?t sprinting my best, I think I showed the team that regardless of my preparation leading up to the Tour, my fitness and strength were up to scratch.

My primary role at the Tour will be to help Thor Hushovd in the sprints. It?ll be my job to protect him as much as possible coming into the final stages of the field sprints. Although I would like to go to the Tour with the prospect of contesting the sprints myself, I can fully understand why I am going as Thor?s helper and to be honest with you all, I am just stoked to have been able to come back from my crash as quickly as I have and to have shown enough form to even get a start in the Tour. It?s been a bizarre season to date so I?m just feeling pretty relieved by this outcome and if I can help Thor to get a stage win then I?ll be rapt. He?s had a great season so far and it?d be nice to lend him a hand in huge race like the Tour.

So there you have it! It?s going to be a very interesting July for me and for once it?ll be nice not to be watching the Tour on the teev. Carole will be heading up to Belgium for the first few days of the race and then again in the middle there so between us, we?ll be keeping you guys updated daily?. Well, that?s our plan anyway?.

Spot ya,

Julz
