Julian Dean Diary
2006 Tour de France - Stage 6.

Today was an absolute shocker. I was really suffering a lot. I think it?s most likely from the crashes of the past two days. Yesterday I wasn?t too bad but I think that the second crash ruined me. I don't feel like I have any specific problems but I think that just the ?thud? and shock of crashing is taking its toll more than anything.
I wasn't really able to help much in the sprint today. I knew from the start that I was creeping after I was nearly dropped over the only cat 3 climb of the day. From then on I was just swinging the whole day on the flat and in the crosswind. It was just awful suffering that much all day.
Finally, after making it to the sprint, I was only able to bring Thor to Boonen's wheel with 400m to go. I just didn't have the power to do any more than that. I felt pretty bad about it but that?s just the way it was today. I did what I could. You just feel shit when you can't deliver when you know what you?re capable of. Thor understood though so that?s cool.
I hope that in the next couple of days I begin to feel better. We have the TT tomorrow and then a semi flat day before the first rest day. To try and recover as much as possible over the next three days is all I can hope for before the race heads into the mountains.
