Although the course took its toll on the riders, they were enthusiastic about it. They praised its technical difficulties as well as its challenges to individual fitness and endurance.
Lynne Bessette said after the Women's Road Race: "It's a great course for the Worlds -- it's awesome and challenging. It's also quite pretty in places. I thought the security was terrific?. It was one of the best Nationals ever."
Bessette said she particularly appreciated riding along city streets lined with people cheering the riders. "So often in
Eric Wohlberg, who won the Elite Men's time trial, said of the long time trial course: "This is the toughest course I've seen in a long time at the Nationals."
Sue Palmer-Kolmar pronounced the course "excellent . . . tough with a lot of different elements. You have to be fit to succeed on this course with those two climbs. There's not too much time to recover between them."
