Dekker Takes Stage 6 of Dutch Tour; Wins Overall
Erik Dekker (Rabobank) has won the sixth and final stage of the Tour of the Netherlands.
Erik Dekker (Rabobank) has won the sixth and final stage of the Tour of the Netherlands. In so doing, the Rabobank rider has won the Dutch national race for the third time. Dekker outsprinted teammate Marc Wauters and Fabrizio Guidi (CSC) to win the 197-km ride from Sittard-Geleen to Landgraaf in 4:58:16. The time bonuses that Dekker won enabled the Dutchman to pip defending champion Vyatcheslav Ekimov (U.S. Postal Service), who finished fifth in the final sprint, by 0:01.
In the overall, Dekker defeated Ekimov by 0:01 and Wauters by 0:04. These riders and others in the Netherlands Tour will face each other in late summer and early fall races. Who will prevail? Check in at www.roadcycling.com and find out!
