Dave's Dogmatic Dribbles - Tour de France - Stage 14
It doesn't take long and the blows start flying.
The race is uneventful and I?m waiting for some action at the beyond category climb. Nothing happens but the pressure by Rabobank is there. Near the summit, Soler shoots ahead in an attempt to claim the polka dot jersey for real since it is only on loan from Michael. There are still four non contending leaders ahead of the GC group. Alexander ?YoYo? Vinokourov has already lost more time today than he gained yesterday. He?s about 5:30 behind the GC leaders at the summit. It doesn?t look good. Get ready to stick a fork in him.
In the valley, Hincapie is in front of Rabobank and pacing hard. I sense tension. Is this the beginning of Discovery?s move? At the base of the final climb, George peels off and Popo replaces him. It looks like a tough pace and another sign by Discovery.
It doesn?t take long and the blows start flying. Contador swings first then Rasmussen and now Soler. Levi looks sluggish. Evans cracks. Kloden is faltering. Rasmussen and Contador exchange attacks until they settle in. Matter of fact, Contador settles on Rasmussen?s wheel and rightfully so. It doesn?t seem to make Michael happy. Too bad!
There is a surge at the finish line and Alberto wins the stage! Levi clawed his way to fourth.
Not a bad day for Discovery Channel. Let?s see what they can do tomorrow. I still haven?t seen anything spectacular from Levi. If you want to be a star, you need to be more flamboyant. I?m sorry, but Levi is boring to watch. By the way, Popo?s mates better be buying the beer for him tonight.
Sadly, nobody has seen nor heard from Vino. [Who?]
