Bettini Wins Med Tour

Paolo Bettini (Quick Step) has won the Tour of the Mediterranean.

Paolo Bettini (Quick Step) has won the Tour of the Mediterranean. The diminutive Italian claimed victory after his Quick Step squad finished third behind Fassa Bortolo and Rabobank in the Med Tour's team time trial, the sixth and final stage of this year Med Tour. Fassa Bortolo won the 42-km event in 51:19, with Rabobank finishing second at 0:15 and Quick Step taking third at 2:36.

Fassa Bortolo rode strongly to win the team time trial. Their only real competition was Rabobank, whose leader, Bram De Groot, had an outside chance of winning the race. The Dutch squad rode well, but not well enough to move up De Groot. Quick Step was well in arrears but held on to give Bettini the victory.

In the overall, Bettini defeated Laurent Brochard (Ag2r) by 0:10 and Sylvain Chavanel (Brioches La Boulangere) by 0:22. Bettini has stated that he would like to win the Trofeo Laigueglia and Milan-San Remo. Will he do so? Check in at http://www.roadcycling.com/ and find out!
