Quick Step led the pursuit. With 35 km remaining, 2:00 separated the bunch from the break. Alexandre Moos (Phonak) attempted to bridge up to Etxebarria, which started a flurry of attacks. The attacks put paid to Etxebarria?s escape.
Liberty Seguros and T-Mobile drove the field, but the attacks continued. With 16 km left, Fabian Wegmann (Gerolsteiner) and Fabian Cancellara (Fassa Bortolo) sortied. With 10 km left, the pair led by 0:25. Rabobank and Liquigas led the pursuit, and the fugitives were reeled in with 2.5 km remaining.
