2013 Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne cancelled due to snow

This year's edition of Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne (Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne), traditionally the second race of the Belgian opening weekend of the spring classics season, has been cancelled because of snow.

The race organizers and the Belgian police are unable to guarantee the safety of the riders, staff members and spectators because of heavy snow and freezing conditions. The weather conditions in the race area today are so severe that an alternative route was never considered as a solution to the problem.

At approximately 11:15 AM CET a meeting was held between members of the organization behind the race, the police and representatives from various teams.

Similarly, the 2013 GP di Lugano, which was set to take place in Switzerland today, has been cancelled due to snow. Parts of the route is covered by up to ten centimeters of snow.
