2008 Tour de France - Stage 19 Expect one big group ride today. Cunego was unable to start after his severe crash yesterday. It’s gotta hurt even more to be this close to Paris and have to quit. I was thinking, can we just skip today and go straight to the time trial? That way, everyone can go home a day early.
Here’s some exciting news, Schumacher is in a break along with Martinez, Ballan and Fedrigo. With only a minute gap, it’s not really that exciting. As a matter of fact, they get caught after being away for about 50km. More exciting news, Chavanel is on the attack (again). He is joined by countryman Jeremy Roy. If only Schumacher was with them. Then, it would really get exciting. Schumacher’s escape must have worn out the peloton as the double Frenchmen gain five minutes over the peloton. I guess that proves two Frenchmen are better than four multi nationals.
At 5km to go, the lead is 2:40. I thought they would have been reeled in by now. Sylvain is in front of Jeremy as they initiate the sprint. Jeremy’s cadence is higher but Sylvain wins! Finally! What a glorious day for “Mr. Attack”. Maybe somebody in Team CSC – Saxo Bank could learn a lesson from him. Forget about any comments for tomorrow so nothing distracts us from his glory. Sylvain Chavanel is the man today. I’m truly happy for him. Way to go Sylvain, never say die.
