Team BMC Racing Bets on Kroon in 2010 Amstel Gold Race

Karsten Kroon will be supported by World Champion Cadel Evans and the rest of the BMC Racing Team on Sunday as he bids to become the first Dutchman since 2001 to win the Amstel Gold Race on home turf.

Kroon was runner-up at Amstel Gold Race last year and finished fourth in the 2006 edition. Team BMC Racing sports director John Lelangue told Roadcycling.com that Kroon is on good form heading into the 257 km race. "We'll make the race for him," Lelangue stated. "Cadel is only there to come back to competition so it will be Karsten's race. The last few weeks he has proven that he has his place on the Classics roster."

Excluded from the BMC Racing Team roster for Sunday's Amstel Gold Race is Marcus Burghardt, who has been replaced by teammate Alexander Kristoff. "Marcus has a little problem on the heel of his foot due to the cobblestones in Paris-Roubaix," Lelangue commented. "It's more reasonable to have him recover from it totally so his next race will be the 2010 Amgen Tour of California."

The team's roster for the 2010 Fleche Wallonne on Wednesday is virtually the same. Evans finished second in 2008 in the 198 km Belgian Classic and fifth last year, while Kroon placed third in 2006. Lelangue said the BMC Racing Team, which is in 10th position in the current UCI world rankings, is on track with its goals. "We know we have three races coming - Amstel Gold, Flèche Wallonne and Liege-Bastogne-Liege (April 25) - where we expect to take some points, followed by the big Tours, where we are aiming for results around Cadel (Evans)" he said.

Team BMC Racing roster for the 2010 Amstel Gold Race:
Karsten Kroon (NED), Brent Bookwalter (USA), Cadel Evans (AUS), Mathias Frank (SWI), Alexander Kristoff (NOR), Jeff Louder (USA), Steve Morabito (SWI), Simon Zahner (SWI).

Team BMC Racing roster for the 2010 Flèche Wallonne:
Karsten Kroon (NED), Cadel Evans (AUS), Mathias Frank (SWI), Jeff Louder (USA), Brent Bookwalter (USA), Steve Morabito (SWI), Jackson Stewart (USA), Simon Zahner (SWI).
