German cyclist Stefan Schumacher has lost his appeal of a two-year global ban for doping at the Tour de France.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled on Monday that the International Cycling Union was right to ban the 28-year-old German. He can race again after Aug. 27, 2010.

Schumacher won both individual time trials at the 2008 Tour, but was caught two months later when the French anti-doping agency developed a test for CERA, the latest version of blood-boosting hormone EPO.

His blood samples taken before and during the race contained the banned drug.
