Sastre Praises Teammates' Performance

By Thomas Valentinsen
Apr 15, 2009 - 8:55:49 AM

Carlos Sastre (Team Cervelo TestTeam) was proud of his new team after the great performance of his teammates in the 2009 Paris-Roubaix classic, which saw the Norwegian Thor Hushovd accompanying Boonen and Pozzatto on the podium, and four other Cervelo TestTeam riders Haussler (7th), Klier (12th), Hammond (15th) and Hunt (19th) finishing in the top 20.

"We must congratulate the whole team! Because, since the first races of the season in Qatar and California, the team has been at a high level, getting victories and on podiums of the major races, as was the case of Haussler, second at Milan-San Remo and Tour of Flanders, in addition to stage victories in Paris-Nice and the Algarve, or Hushovd, third in Roubaix and San Remo, in addition to the stage of California and former Het Volk", he comments with great satisfaction in Avila, Spain, following the Great Classics on the cobblestones of northern France with care and enthusiasm.

Teamwork is the foundation of the Cervélo Test Team. Carlos Sastre says that it "has been very important for the morale of the entire team, which has been run at the highest level since the first race, responding to the expectations of our sponsors and gaining the confidence of all the organizations that have wanted to have our presence in their races".

"Sunday was spectacular", Sastre added, "to see four and five black jerseys of our team at the head of the racers in the final phase of the Paris-Roubaix. And without Hushovds unfortunate crash the results could have been even more impressive."

In addition to the major results that Cervelo TestTeam riders powered themselves to, which are obvious, Carlos Sastre highlighted the work of two great veterans in the background. "Both Hammond and Klier have done an outstanding job, giving to the team something very important in these races, their great experience and seniority, and their generosity in sacrificing for the mates."

"From now, the 2009 season is entering its second phase and we as other riders, have been able to work with some peace of mind so far. Now we have to take responsibility for the team to be able to continue to get results," said the winner of the 2008 Tour de France and added that "We must strive to be able to live up to our colleagues, and the truth is that they have set the bar very high."
