Mark Cavendish Looks for 6-Plus Stage Wins in 2010 Tour de France

British sprinter ace Mark Cavendish expects to win more than six stages in the 2010 Tour de France, he said during the Tour de France route presentation in Paris earlier today.

Asked whether he would be out to emulate this year's performance, when he prevailed six times, the Columbia rider grinned and said: "More".

Cavendish, who has 10 Tour stages to his name, will be gunning for his first green jersey, awarded to the winner of the points classification.

This year, he fell 10 points short of Norway's Thor Hushovd, who proved more consistent in the mountain stages and the intermediate sprints.

"I will have to win the sprints in the first week, then it will be all about maintaining my lead," he said.

Next year's route, which was unveiled on Wednesday, will feature more mountains than in 2009 and could prove treacherous in the opening week, with gusty winds expected in the Netherlands and cobbled sections in the third stage

2010 Tour de France.
