Washington could one day host the opening stage of the Giro d'Italia, race director Angelo Zomegnan said on Wednesday.
The three-week race, traditionally all around Italy, will begin in Amsterdam next May and organizers are looking even further afield for future starting points.
"For a while we've had in mind the idea of starting the Giro in America. Now, there is concrete interest from Washington," Zomegnan told Gazzetta dello Sport, whose publishers run the Giro.
