Millar has the bad luck of the day when his chain goes off immediately out of the start house. After his bike change, he only goes another minute and something breaks again. Poor David. Popo and Hincapie show good form placing in the top seven. Their efforts certainly have contributed to Discovery being first in the team standings.
The time checks are coming in and Levi puts :15 on Evans in the first split! The gap grows and he’s riding like he’s after the yellow jersey. LEVI, LEVI, LEVI! He blows Evans away by :51 to win the stage. Maybe he thought he was in the Pyrenees.

Wait, there’s more to come. Where is Contador? We knew he was going to lose time and maybe even the yellow jersey. Alberto guts it out to finish 5th overall and remains in yellow by :23. Wow!
The race of truth is about individuals and their efforts. There were 141 individual efforts today. Although one man finishes with the best time, all gave their best efforts. Tomorrow we will see a different tone in the Tour. The accomplishments of the racers will be on their minds. All will be serene. Until those damn sprinters make a mess out of everything on the last lap!
