Thor Hushovd Signs with Team BMC Racing

Norwegian God of Thunder Thor Hushovd has signed a contract with Team BMC Racing and will join the team for the 2012 season, moving from Team Garmin-Cervélo and becoming the third straight world road champion to become part of the American team's roster the past two seasons.

Norwegian God of Thunder Thor Hushovd has signed a contract with Team BMC Racing and will join the team for the 2012 season, moving from Team Garmin-Cervélo and becoming the third straight world road champion to become part of the American team's roster the past two seasons.

When asked to comment on the signing of Thor Hushovd, Team BMC Racing President and General Manager Jim Ochowicz told Roadcycling.com and Roadcycling.mobi Hushovd fits perfectly into the future plans of the organization.

"Thor brings a lot of qualities to us and complements other riders on the team in races like the Spring Classics and the Grand Tours. We're very happy to have his talents, enthusiasm and expertise now working with the BMC Racing Team family for 2012 and beyond."

The exact terms of Hushovd's new contract with Team BMC have not been disclosed. Ochowicz, however, revealed that the deal extends through the end of the 2014 season.

Hushovd won two stages of the Tour de France this year in magnificent fashion and wore the yellow leader's jersey for Team Garmin-Cervélo for an impressive seven days.

A two-time winner of the Tour's points classification (2005, 2009), the Norwegian said a finely turned organizational structure is what attracted him to the BMC Racing Team.

"It's a serious team where it looks like everything is well-organized. There's a plan put together for the riders for all the big and important races. Everyone knows what to do. That's a good thing." Hushovd has previously hinted that this is what he feels is missing in Team Garmin-Cervélo.

Hushovd revealed one ambition remains when it comes to his classics career. "My biggest goal is still to win the Paris-Roubaix. The BMC Racing Team has good riders to support me."
