Team RadioShack's Manuel Cardoso Wins Stage 4 of 2011 Tour of Catalunya
Portuguese Team RadioShack rider Manuel Cardoso won the fourth stage of the Tour of Catalunya 2011 (Volta a Catalunya 2011) earlier today as embattled Spanish Team Saxo Bank-SunGard rider Alberto Contador retained his overall race lead.
Tour de France champion Contador, who is now facing an International Cycling Union (UCI) appeal against the Spanish federation's decision to clear him in a doping case, still leads by 23 seconds in the overall rankings.
"We did what we had to do. We controlled the pace with a couple of other teams who wanted to enter the finish line in one group for the bunch sprint," Contador's sports director with Team Saxo Bank-SunGard Dan Frost analyzed after the stage and added "We're only interested in the overall classification and for the sake of the race and the thrill of it, I kind of hope that a group of fortune diggers seek an opportunity to make it last to the finish line. However, no one is going to take the jersey away from us."
