Luis Leon Sanchez Repeats Victory in Tour de Romandie

Team Rabobank's Luis Leon Sanchez sprinted to a second stage victory earlier today and the bonus seconds he gained also helped him grab the overall race lead from Team Sky's Bradley Wiggins.

Team Rabobank's Luis Leon Sanchez sprinted to a second stage victory earlier today and the bonus seconds he gained also helped him grab the overall race lead from Team Sky's Bradley Wiggins. Team AG2R's Rinaldo Nocentini finished 2nd today behind Sanchez and Branislau Samoilau of Team Movistar claimed the last spot on the podium in Sion, Switzerland.

Six riders attacked shortly after the start of today's stage. The six riders who showed no fear for the hard climbs awaiting the peloton were Johann Tschopp of Team BMC Racing, Jean-Christophe Perraud of Team AG2R, Team Saur-Sojasun's Guillaume Levarlet, Team Euskaltel-Euskadi's Jorge Azanza, and Eduard Vorganov and Petr Ignatenko - both from Team Katusha.

Team BMC Racing's Tejay Van Garderen was struck in the face by a wayward branch as winds gusted to 60 kilometers an hour on the high speed descent off the Col des Mosses in today's stage. According to Team BMC Racing's team doctor Max Testa Van Garderen required a few stitches to his nose but he has suffered no fracture.

"He's doing fine and feeling good," Testa commented and added "It's just a soft tissue injury, but the cut was pretty deep. He'll have to take it easy for a few days." Van Garderen had been sitting 15 seconds off the lead when he had to withdraw barely 50 km into today's penultimate stage.

Tomorrow's final stage of the 2012 Tour de Romandie is an individual time trial stage which includes a category 1 climb. The time trial bikes will transport the riders from the town of Crans Montana to the Montana Village on a demanding 16.5 kilometer route. Look for Bradley Wiggins trying to reclaim the overall race lead and for defending Tour of Romandy champion Cadel Evans to fight his way back upwards in the general classification. Riders such as Janez Brajkovic, Andrew Talansky, Roman Kreuziger, and Andreas Klöden are also expected to prove their worth tomorrow.
