Cervelo TestTeam displayed excellent performances in their first two Grand Tour participations earlier this season in the 2009 Giro d’Italia and the 2009 Tour de France. We are now approaching the final Grand Tour of 2009 - the Vuelta a España 2009.

The 64th edition kicks off on August 29 in the Netherlands. The past 12 editions of the Vuelta / Tour of Spain have all started in Spain. This year, however, it begins in Assen on a race circuit. The first three stages will also take place in the Netherlands before the peloton pedals on to Belgium for the fourth stage, which finish in Liege. After a rest day on planes, the remaining 17 stages will take place in Spain with the Vuelta concluding on September 20 in the Spanish capital of Madrid. The course is 3,281.5 km and features 3 time trials, 8 mountain stages and 10 flat stages. Out of a pre-selected pool of 11 riders Cervelo TestTeam intends to select a balanced team of 9 riders to be announced later this month.

“Our team has had a dream for Cervélo TestTeam’s inaugural season,” said Thomas Campana, Cervelo TestTeam Manager. “We already have two amazing Grand Tours behind us with several stage wins, as well as the Green Jersey of Thor Hushovd (NOR) in the Tour de France. Our team is still very motivated and hungry to achieve the best results possible in the 2009 Vuelta a España which will be the “home race” for several of our riders and certainly, beside the World Championships, the highlight of the late season. Our goal for the Vuelta is to have a stage win and a good result in the GC for Jose Angel Gómez Marchante (ESP) who already [finished] fifth in 2006.”
