Catlike Whisper Plus Helmet Review

The Catlike Whisper Plus is a very recognizable helmet if you watch the pro peloton. The Whisper Plus was worn by the Cervelo TestTeam during the 2010 pro road cycling season and is the helmet with all the little round holes. But the best thing about the Catlike Whisper Plus bicycling helmet could be its ability to keep your head cool.

The first thing I noticed about the Whisper Plus was its weight; it was lighter than I had anticipated. When you see it on TV it looks like a pretty beefy helmet but when you get it in your hands it is surprisingly lightweight. I noticed the support straps had plenty of extra length to allow a wide range of head sizes, but they made it a little difficult to adjust to my features. Adjusting the straps to clip securely under my chin took a little more time than I expected. But the tightening strap in the rear of the helmet made up for it, it was easy to find when the helmet was on and to draw tight.

Once I had the Catlike Whisper Plus adjusted to fit my head I decided it was time to hit the road. My first time out with the Whisper Plus was on a hot humid day, a typical summer day in most places. My first thought was "Now I know why the Cervelo TestTeam uses the Whisper Plus", I could immediately feel a cool breeze over my head. It was nice to feel cool on such a hot day. The beads of sweat I normally have to wipe from my brows weren't there. Another nice thing about the Whisper Plus is I could get my fingers through the helmet so I could scratch my itchy head. However, because it has so many air flow holes I noticed little bugs were getting inside the helmet like other helmets I have. The second time I wore the Whisper Plus was to Thursday night worlds and I was the center of attention. Other riders really liked the look of the Whisper Plus and most wanted to know where they could get one.

After having seen the Catlike Whisper Plus in the pro peloton on TV I had huge expectations and I wasn't disappointed. It is light weight - actually it was even more lightweight than I expected. The amount of air flow was refreshing to the head and helped to keep me cool on the road. It also looks cool and really made me the envy of other riders in my local area. One thing about the Whisper Plus helmet I would change is the amount of extra chin strap it came with, there was so much extra material it made it more difficult to fit than it should have been.

In conclusion the Catlike Whisper Plus helmet offers everything a rider needs in a helmet. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a helmet that offers excellent air flow, is lightweight and wants a distinctive look.
