Cancellara to Rest Up after Back-to-back Wins

Fabian Cancellara: Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix "required a lot of energy and used up my reserves."

Team Saxo Bank's Fabian Cancellara will skip this Sunday's Amstel Gold Race to rest rather than try to continue his impressive winning streak.

Cancellara said on his Web site Thursday that his next race will be the eight-stage 2010 Tour of California being held May 16-23.

The 29-year-old Olympic time trial champion has scored dominant wins in the one-day classic Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix races on the past two Sundays.

Cancellara said the victories "made me more than happy and proud but they also required a lot of energy and used up my reserves."

The Amstel Gold Race, which links the towns of Maastricht and Cauberg in the Netherlands, is the first of three events in eight days that make up the Ardennes Classics series.
